The rapid development of Islamic pawn (rahn) practices in Indonesia highlights their strategic role in promoting Sharia-based financial inclusion. Nevertheless, several studies indicate a gap between the ideal conception of justice in Islamic law and its practical implementation at the operational level. This study aims to examine the relevance of truth theories in Islamic legal philosophy namely correspondence, coherence, and pragmatic theories as ethical foundations for realizing substantive justice in rahn contracts. This research employs a qualitative normative approach through library research, analyzing academic literature, books, and secondary empirical studies published between 2020 and 2025 concerning theories of truth, justice in Islamic law, and rahn practices in Indonesia. The findings demonstrate that truth theories provide a robust evaluative framework for assessing the ethical quality of rahn contracts: correspondence theory emphasizes the alignment between contractual terms and actual practice; coherence theory requires consistency of Sharia values across institutional policies and operations; while pragmatic theory assesses justice based on the social and economic benefits delivered to customers. The study further reveals that rahn implementation in Indonesia has not fully achieved substantive justice due to limited customer literacy, insufficient cost transparency, and variations in operational standards among institutions. These findings imply the need to strengthen institutional ethics and Sharia regulations grounded in truth theories as normative instruments for evaluating and improving Islamic pawn practices.
